Standard on every 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee is a 3.6-liter V6 as well as an eight-speed automatic transmission. This transmission is the only engine available on a Laredo model. The Summit, Overland, Trailhawk, and Limited models offer the other options with the inclusion of a 5.7-liter V8 and a 3.0-liter diesel V6. <p></p> The new Trailhawk comes with standard Quadra-Drive II, a four-wheel-drive system including low-range gearing and electronic limited-slip rear differential. All other Grand Cherokees come with the standard rear-wheel drive. The four-wheel-drive systems offered are the Quadra-Trac I system for the Laredo only and the Quadra-Trac II for the Summit, Overland, Limited, and Laredo models.

The diesel engine, four-wheel drive, Grand Cherokee Summit can go from zero to 60 mph in 7.7 seconds according to performance testing. A gasoline V6 engine-powered Grand Cherokee with proper equipment can have a max towing capacity of 6,200 pounds. Performing at an excellent rating for a midsize SUV, the towing capacity for the 5.7-liter V8 tops out at 7,400 pounds with the diesel V6 showing a comparable rating.

Even at the most basic level, the Grand Cherokee's interior provides satisfying materials and an upscale look. The optional 8.4-inch touchscreen features a user-friendly interface and includes both a Wi-Fi hotspot and integration for your smartphone. <p></p> There's ample room for a family of five. Luxury options include ventilated front seats and a dual-screen, Blu-ray-capable, rear entertainment system with an HDMI input.

The 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee comes with anti-lock disc brakes, stability and traction control, front side air bags, side curtain air bags, active front head restraints, a rearview camera, and rear parking sensors. Additional safety technologies include the Blind Spot Monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alert, a forward collision mitigation system with automatic emergency braking, and Lane Departure Warning with intervention functions.
