The Exterior

The Renegade is the smallest Jeep you can buy. It is tall with an upright design to give it more room inside, and it has the seven-bar grille and the large round headlights you expect to see on a Jeep. You can choose between four trim levels starting with the Sport which comes with 16-inch steel wheels. Add the Sport Appearance Package for alloy wheels along with roof rails. The Latitude trim adds foglights and automatic headlights, and you can add the Altitude package for 18-inch wheels. Next is the Limited trim with a dual exhaust and automatic wipers, and you’ll also get some extra tech features. The top trim is the Trailhawk. This is the off-road edition with four-wheel drive and a raised suspension. You’ll also get hill descent control, tow hooks, and skid plates.

The Engine

There are two engines available with the Renegade. The Sport and Latitude come standard with a 1.4-liter four-cylinder that delivers 160 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. This comes only with a six-speed manual. The other engine is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that will get you 180 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque. This larger engine is standard on the Limited and Trailhawk, and you can opt for it on the two lower trims. You can expect to see about 27 miles per gallon combined with the 1.4-liter and 24 mpg combined with the 2.4-liter engine.

Technology

Starting with the Latitude trim, you get the Uconnect infotainment system. This comes with a 5-inch touchscreen monitor and satellite radio. There is also Bluetooth connectivity for your phone and audio along with voice commands for hands-free driving. All the models have a USB port and auxiliary jack, while in the Limited you get a 115-volt power outlet.

Safety

The Renegade comes standard with antilock brakes, traction and stability control, and hill-start assist. There is also a knee airbag for the driver and front side airbags along with side curtain airbags. Optional safety systems include rear parking sensors, a blind-spot monitoring system, rear cross-traffic alert, and forward collision warning with a collision mitigation system. You can also add lane departure warning with an intervention system to help keep you in your lane.

Interior

Inside the 2017 Renegade, both the front and back seat passengers have plenty of room in spite of the vehicle’s small size. There are high-quality materials throughout the cabin, and if included in the design, you can remove the My Sky roof panels. In the back of the Renegade you’ll have 18.5 cubic feet of cargo space, and when you lay the rear seats down, this opens up to 50.8 cubic feet.

The 2017 Renegade offers a fun drive whether you are on the highway or back roads.
